Amish Onion Fritters (Print View)

Crispy, golden onion fritters with a tender, sweet interior. A simple, Amish-inspired treat perfect for any occasion.

# What You'll Need:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 1 cup plain flour
02 - 1 tbsp white sugar
03 - 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
04 - 2 big sweet onions, chopped finely
05 - 3/4 cup whole milk
06 - Oil for frying
07 - 1 tsp table salt
08 - 1 tsp leavening powder

# Directions:

01 - Pour the pepper, flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder into a big bowl. Stir them together until combined.
02 - Slowly mix the onions and milk into the dry mix. Stop stirring as soon as you get a chunky, sticky batter.
03 - In a heavy pan or large pot, heat about two inches of oil over medium-high. Wait until it gets really hot—about 375°F (190°C).
04 - Scoop out small amounts of batter with a spoon and gently drop them into the hot oil one at a time. Leave space for them to cook properly.
05 - Cook each fritter for a couple of minutes on each side. Once they're a nice, crispy gold color, they're ready!
06 - With a slotted spoon, carefully move the fritters onto a plate you've lined with paper towels to soak up the oil.
07 - Serve immediately while they're still warm and crunchy. Add a dipping sauce or some garnish if you want.

# Notes:

01 - These are tastiest when eaten right after frying—they're hot, crispy, and full of flavor.
