Vegan Chopped Cheese Sandwich (Print View)

Hearty vegan sandwich with caramelized onions, crumbled patties, melty cheese, crisp veggies, and toasted hoagie rolls.

# What You'll Need:

→ Caramelized Onions

01 - 680 g sweet onions, thinly sliced
02 - 60 ml vegetable oil
03 - 1 teaspoon salt

→ Filling

04 - 4 vegan burger patties, thawed
05 - Salt and black pepper, to taste
06 - 4 slices vegan cheese

→ Assembly

07 - 4 hoagie rolls, toasted if desired
08 - Sliced tomatoes
09 - Shredded lettuce
10 - Vegan mayonnaise or ketchup, or preferred condiments

# Directions:

01 - Heat vegetable oil in a large cast iron or stainless steel skillet over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onions and sprinkle with salt; toss to coat well.
02 - Stir onions and scrape up the bottom of the pan every 5 minutes, allowing them to cook for 25–35 minutes. Onions should become fragrant and blonde in color; adjust the heat to prevent burning.
03 - Add vegan burger patties to the skillet; season with salt and pepper. Using a wooden spoon, chop and crumble the patties as they cook. Cook for 10 minutes or according to package directions, ensuring an internal temperature of 74°C.
04 - Distribute vegan cheese slices over the crumbled burger mixture. Cover skillet with a lid, remove from heat, and let sit for 3–4 minutes until cheese is fully melted.
05 - Place a quarter of the mixture onto each hoagie roll. Layer with shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and finish with desired condiments.
06 - Present immediately and enjoy while hot.

# Notes:

01 - For deeply caramelized onions, extend the cooking time and stir regularly to prevent burning.
