Easy Cherry Danish (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Pastries

01 - 2 sheets of store-bought puff pastry, defrosted as per the instructions
02 - 8 oz of softened cream cheese
03 - 2 tablespoons of white sugar
04 - 1 teaspoon of almond flavoring
05 - One 21-ounce can of cherry pie filling

→ Egg Wash

06 - 1 egg, at room temperature
07 - 1 tablespoon of tap water

→ Topping

08 - Powdered sugar for sprinkling on top

# Instructions:

01 - Fire up your oven to 400°F. Lay some parchment paper on two big baking sheets.
02 - Use a floured surface to slice each pastry sheet into 6 rectangular pieces around 4½x3 inches. You’ll end up with 12 pieces.
03 - Spread the pastry rectangles out on the baking pans, leaving about an inch of space around each piece.
04 - Use a fork to poke holes in the middle area of each pastry, leaving a border of about ½ inch around the edges so the edges puff up and the centers stay flat for the filling.
05 - Mix together the cream cheese, sugar, and almond essence in a medium bowl until smooth and creamy.
06 - Spread about a tablespoon of the cream cheese mix on each pastry, and spoon 2 tablespoons of cherry filling on top.
07 - In a small bowl, whisk the egg and water together, then brush this mixture around the edges of the pastries using a pastry brush.
08 - Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the pastries puff up and turn a nice golden color.
09 - Take them out of the oven. Sprinkle some powdered sugar on top and let them cool slightly before taking a bite.
