In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crisp. Remove and drain on paper towels.

In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, ground cinnamon, and cayenne pepper if using.

Place the donut halves, cut side down, in the skillet and toast until golden brown and slightly crisp.

Flip the donuts. Layer 2 slices of cheddar cheese on each bottom half.

Crumble the cooked bacon over the cheese on each donut bottom.

Drizzle the maple syrup mixture evenly over the bacon.

Place the top halves of the donuts over the bacon and cheese. Press gently and cook 1-2 minutes until cheese melts and donuts are warmed through.
